The function of the Pappajohn Center is outreach oriented with much of the effort collaborative in nature. This includes support of:

  • Iowa Business Plan Competition - the application period for the annual state-wide competition for start-up businesses is closed. Please check back for updates on the competition.
  • Iowa Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship Conference - annual October conference held in Des Moines.
  • Iowa Student Business Plan Competition - the 2013 Student Business Plan Competition is closed. Statewide judging will be held soon. Please check back for updates and information on the winners.
  • CEIC- Collegiate Entrepreneur Iowa Conference – held each spring semester.

 

Pappajohn New Venture Student Business Plan Competition 2013

COMPETITION DESCRIPTION:  Sponsored by John Pappajohn and Equity Dynamics Inc., the Pappajohn New Venture Student Business Plan Competition is intended for college and university students in Iowa who have an interest in starting their own business.  Plans will be judged based on a) content of plan and b) viability of plan. There are two parts to the competition: Round 1, regional; and Round 2, statewide.  In Round 1, up to three (3) $500 grants will be awarded in each region. The successful regional winners will be sent on to the statewide competition for Round 2. In Round 2, three (3) seed grants in the amount of $5,000 each will be awarded to the top three business plans submitted and presented in the competition.

BUSINESS PLAN PRESENTATION DATE, TIME AND LOCATION:

The winners of the regional competitions will soon be going on to the statewide competition. Stay tuned for details!

Iowa Business Plan Competition Open for Submissions
New and start-up businesses can enter to win up to $25,000


The John Pappajohn Iowa Business Plan Competition is accepting entries for the 2013 competition. New and start-up businesses (in business for less than 4 years) are eligible to enter the competition for the chance to win up to $25,000.

The deadline to enter was April 30. 

The John Pappajohn Iowa Business Plan Competition is designed to stimulate business development and provide support for outstanding business plans. This year a total of $50,000 will be awarded to the top three submitted business plans ($25,000 for first prize, $15,000 for second and $10,000 for third). Honorable mention and $1,000 will be awarded to additional companies.

Assistance with business plan entries is available at the Iowa John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Centers located at Drake University, Iowa State University, North Iowa Area Community College, the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa; the Small Business Development Centers throughout the state; and the business accelerators in Ames, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Dubuque, Iowa City, Red Oak and Mason City.

The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Centers provide entrepreneurial education and business support, partnering with agencies like the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA), Entrepreneurial Development Centers (EDCs) and local entrepreneurs to assist with funding and other business needs.
