 Constitution of the Drake Actuarial Student Society 

Article. I. -- Name

The name of this organization shall be Drake Actuarial Student Society (DASS).

Article. II. -- Purpose Statement

The Drake Actuarial Student Society exists to help students in their study of actuarial science. DASS helps to facilitate communication between students and prospective employers, as well as to assist first and second year students in understanding the actuarial profession.

Article. III. -- Membership Section.

1. Membership is open to any Drake University currently enrolled student who has paid the yearly dues and is in good standing with the University and his/her respective college. Section. 2. Members are assessed dues that are determined by the Executive Council for the fall and spring semesters of the academic year. Dues for the semester must be paid to the treasurer by the third general meeting of the organization each semester.

Article. IV. -- Voting

Section. 1. Quorum shall equal fifty percent of the membership.

Section. 2. Each member in good standing has the privilege to vote.

Section. 3. Members must be present at the said vote in order to be counted.

Article. V. -- Meetings Section.

1. Meetings shall be set by the Executive Council. Section.

2. There shall be a minimum of one general meeting per full calendar month of a given semester.

Article. VI. -- Officers and Elections

Section. 1. The Drake Actuarial Student Society Executive Council shall be comprised of a President, Internal Vice-President, External Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Chair, Webmaster, and Freshman Representative.

Section. 2. The election of the President, Internal Vice-President, External Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Chair and Webmaster will be held annually in the month of December. At least two weeks notice shall be given prior to the election meeting. Nominations shall be taken from the floor during the election meeting. Votes shall be cast by secret ballot with the person receiving the highest tally being elected. In the event of an unopposed candidate, a vote shall be taken from the floor. In the event of a tie, there shall be a run-off.

Section. 3. The election of the Freshman Representative shall be held in the month of September during the first or second official meeting. Notice by email shall be given prior to the election meeting. Nominations shall be taken from the floor during the election meeting.Votes shall be cast by secret ballot with the person receiving the highest tally being elected. In the event of an unopposed candidate, a vote shall be taken from the floor.

Section. 4. The term of the President, Internal Vice-President, External Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Chair, and Webmaster shall begin in January at the start of the spring semester and conclude at the end of the following fall semester. Outgoing officers shall be responsible for transitioning new officers during the last few weeks of the semester.

Section. 5. The term of the Freshman Representative shall begin immediately after the election in September and conclude at the end of of the same fall semester. These students shall be eligible to run for year long Executive Council positions at the December election.

Section. 6. Any officer may be removed from office at any time by a two-thirds vote of the membership.

Section. 7. Any vacancy which may occur in an office shall be filled by a special election from the membership. The special election shall be called by the Executive Council.

Article. VII. -- Duties of Officers

Section. 1. The President shall be the official spokesperson for the Drake Actuarial Student Society. The President shall preside over all Executive Council and DASS general meetings. The President shall appoint all committee chairpersons with the two-thirds approval of the Executive Council.

Section. 2. The Internal Vice-President shall assume the duties of the President in the absence of the President or should the office become vacant. The Internal Vice-President shall be responsible for organizational operations not directly related to outside contacts, including the recruitment of freshmen, the publicity of general meetings and special events, and internal communication. The Internal Vice-President shall hold the constitution and its amendments. The Internal Vice-President shall be in charge of fundraising from internal sources.

Section. 3. The External Vice-President shall be responsible for all organizational operations that involve outside contacts, including the coordination of Actuarial Evening, special event speakers, and off-campus field trips. The External Vice-President shall be in charge of fundraising from external sources.

Section. 4.The Secretary shall be responsible for recording the minutes of all general meetings and the Executive Council meetings. The Secretary shall then distribute the minutes on a regular basis to the members of the Executive Council and the advisor. The Secretary shall maintain an accurate file of all activities and write thank you cards. The Secretary shall be responsible for compiling the Employer Information Book each year for Actuarial Evening.

Section. 5. The Treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining all the finances of DASS, which include book keeping society's revenues and expenses as well as collecting membership dues.

Section. 6. The Social Chair shall be responsible for coordinating all social activities sponsored by DASS.

Section. 7. The Webmaster shall be responsible for maintaining the DASS website in coordination with the CBPA. Maintenance shall include, but is not limited to, updating current events, announcements, links, and pictures.

Section. 8. The Freshman Representative shall be responsible for acting as a direct liaison between the freshmen members of DASS and the Executive Council. The Freshmen Representative shall serve a one-semester term, enabling this student to run for another Executive Council position at the December election.

Section. 9. It shall be the duty of all officers to attend all scheduled general meetings as well as all Executive Council meetings, except in the case of an excused absence. An excused absence shall be defined as classes, work, or illness.

Article. VIII. -- Advisor

Section. 1. The Advisor of the Drake Actuarial Student Society shall be aware of all activities within the organization and shall provide advice upon request. In addition, the advisor shall share knowledge, expertise, and experience with the organization.

Section. 2. The Advisor is an automatic non-voting member of the organization, but is invited to attend all DASS meetings and activities.

Article. IX. -- Ratification

This constitution shall be ratified by two-thirds vote of the membership in attendance at a general meeting.

Article. X. -- Amendments

Section. 1. Amendments to the constitution shall be proposed in writing at any general meeting or by email.

Section. 2. The constitution shall be amended by a three-fourths vote of the membership in attendance at the following general meeting.
