EARLY VOTING: Warren County Casino Vote
The Warren County Auditor’s Office has been a popular place to be Monday, as residents vote early on a proposal to build a casino near Norwalk.
Owners of the Wild Rose Casino in Emmetsburg want to build a casino that would also include a hotel and events center. They say it would create 450 full time jobs.
Critics say there is already a casino in nearby Altoona and they don’t want to see the negative aspects of gambling come to Warren County.
Monday is final day voters can cast their ballots early. The auditor’s office says as of about noon on Monday, there have been 3,772 ballot requests and 2, 948 early ballots have been cast either by mail or at the auditor’s office.
Early voting can be done at the auditor’s office in Indianola until 4:30 p.m. Monday. Ballots requested by mail must be postmarked Monday. Polls will be open Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
If voters approve the plan, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission would still have to grant a license to the casino before it could be built.
