DIRECT HIT: Amazing Ames Lightning Strike
WHO-HD Photojournalist Roger Riley caught this amazing lightning strike in Ames early Saturday morning. A pole took a direct hit by the lightning and the transformer blew. Some power outages resulted due to this morning’s storm.
Heavy rain moved through Central Iowa with the storms. As of 10 AM, Des Moines has recieved 1.06″. Ames had a 10 AM total of 1.41″.
Flash flooding became a problem in parts of Jasper, Marshall, Story counties this morning. The Newton airport reported close to 2.5″ of rain as of 10 AM. Some rural roads may be water covered and some creeks may be higher than normal in those counties. Do not drive through flooded roadways.
